Biography
Dr. Selim Shahriar completed his PhD at the age of 27 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Professor in the Department of EECS and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University (NU). He is the Director of the Laboratory of Atomic and Photonic Technologies, and the Director of the Solid and Photonics Division within EECS. He is a council member for the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. He has published 173 papers in reputed journals, and has served as an Associate Editor for Optical Engineering. For his contributions to the detection of gravitational waves, he was a co-recipient of the 2016 Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and the Gruber Prize in Cosmology.
